Ries, Jamie

About

Jamie Ries is a zoo professional specializing in avian species propagation and management with a special interest in waterfowl. She started her zoological career working with birds at the San Diego Safari Park and then continued on to Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) in their Bronx, Central Park and Prospect Park Zoos as a bird keeper and Animal Supervisor. Ries is responsible for developing the Avian Propagation Program for WCS, resulting in the successful hatching and raising of over 200 birds per year. In 2011 Ries was involved in successfully hatching eight critically endangered Scaly-sided Merganser ducklings - a first for any North American zoo.

In October 2012, Ries took a new position as Bird Supervisor of the Minnesota Zoo where she is managing and developing their bird collection. She supervised a South American Aviary renovation, new live BUGS! summer exhibit for 2014, and seasonally manages the Aveda Butterfly Garden.
